Free Bookmobile Seeking Part-Time Mobile Librarian

We appreciate all she has done for the Free Bookmobile program and now must find a replacement for her. Here is the job description and instructions for applying. JOB OPENING: Mobile Librarian – Free Bookmobile of Sonoma County

Part-Time (2 – 3 days/week, includes some weekend days)

The non-profit Sonoma County Public Library Foundation has an opening for a part-time Mobile Librarian in its award-winning Free Bookmobile program. The Free Bookmobile promotes literacy and love of reading by giving away high quality books throughout the region, especially seeking to serve low-income and rural children and seniors. This role involves driving our 24′ Freightliner bookmobile (a bit bigger than a UPS truck) on scheduled routes throughout all Sonoma County, providing excellent service to patrons of all ages as they browse the books, and generally being a strong advocate for reading.

The position is approximately 2 – 3 days per week and requires at least one weekend day per weekend. Schedules are made up to one month in advance. Shifts range from 7 – 10 hours each and are exempt from overtime up to 10 hours per day. It is a demanding job that will challenge your interpersonal skills and the rewards of working with the people we serve (all ages, races, income levels, from homeless to affluent) can be wonderful for the right person. Some ability with Spanish language preferred as we serve a large Latino population. Wages start at $16/hour with possibility of modest raises based on performance and longevity. No benefits offered.

The appropriate candidate will have:

•             Enthusiasm for reading and learning

•             A positive and friendly attitude

•             Superior customer service skills

•             Experience and success working with children

•             Excellent driving skills and verifiable safety record (class C only required)

•             Significant knowledge of book genres/authors, preferably from previous work in a library or bookstore setting

•             Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds up and down steep stairs several times per day

•             Consistent availability to work at least one weekend day per week

•             Reliable transportation to rural west Sebastopol (our headquarters)

•             Punctuality and general reliability

•             Willingness and ability to make a two-year commitment to the job

Local references and DMV driving record printout are required as part of the interview process. Passing a Live Scan fingerprint criminal background check is required prior to hire.

The position is immediately available but will not be filled until we find the appropriate candidate. Only those who are a close fit for the criteria in this listing should apply.
